The Mid Level Mortgage Underwriter (Underwriter II) is responsible for the thorough review of in-house loans and pre-submission reviews of externally underwritten loans to ensure that safe and sound underwriting practices are followed. The underwriter is responsible for ensuring that all loans are underwritten according to agency and investor guidelines. The underwriter must promote excellent customer service and related activities, including working with Management, Loan Consultants, Client Coordinators and Closers.

The Mortgage Underwriter II must hold a FHA Direct Endorsement Certification and have a thorough and comprehensive understanding of all FHA, FNMA and FHLMC underwriting guidelines and investor overlays.

Responsibilities of the Mortgage Underwriter II:
Ensure that acceptable turn-times are maintained.
Responsible for determining and issuing the credit decision of FHA and conventional, conforming mortgage loan applications (up to a maximum loan amount of $417,000 for conventional loans and FHA loan limits as published) according to agency and lender guidelines.The decision must consider the borrower(s) ability to repay, including validation of the borrower(s) employment, income, credit, assets and collateral as well as clearing any applicable underwriting conditions.
Completing reviews of those specific loans that will be underwritten as a prior-approved loan with the company's investors and providing feedback to Client Coordinators and Loan Consultants.
Maintain up to date knowledge of all agency and investor underwriting guidelines and credit overlays.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
